  • King Henry VIII visits Acton CEVC Primary School

    Fri 08 Feb 2019 Miss O'Neill

What a fantastic Tudor Day Owls and Bumblebees had this week! We came into school on Thursday in our brilliant Tudor outfits. Some of us were dressed as poor Tudors in dark coloured clothes, whereas others were dressed in rich, colourful Tudor clothes. During the day we met King Henry Vlll and learnt all about his life. We found out about how the Tudor period began and all about King Henry Vlll’s wives and children. We took part in a ‘do you think or not think’ quiz. We learnt that the Tudor’s ate bananas but didn’t have potatoes. Our jousting tournament before lunch was also great fun. In teams we had to collect six quoits using jousting spears, the first team to collect them all, won. In the afternoon we had a go at Tudor dancing and played musical instruments along with creating a Tudor rose and playing noughts and crosses.

  • 'So - What's the Story?'

    Fri 01 Feb 2019 Miss O'Neill

This week KS1 had an exciting visitor, a Storyteller called Justine. Justine told everyone a wonderful African story called ‘Anancy the Spider’ and then the children had the opportunity to create their very own stories.

In Reception Class, Justine involved the children in retelling traditional tales on a theme of 'three'. Can you guess what they were?

Today, we were visited by Claire from West End in Schools - a London Dance Company who we have enjoyed working with in the past. • World Religion Day

    Mon 21 Jan 2019 Miss O'Neill

This week, as part of our Religious Education, we are celebrating World Religion Day. We began with Miss Underwood and Ruth Ridge leading assembly, where we thought about different world religions and how many of them share 'The Golden Rule' or a similar belief - 'Do to others as you would have them do to you'.

Then we welcomed visitors from several faiths to talk to children in family groups about their own faith, and how they practise that in their everyday lives. We spent the rest of the morning engaged in art and craft activities relating to the religion we had learned about. Art work is being displayed in classroom windows for everyone to see, so please take a moment to look at the end of the day.

The theme continues tomorrow, when we will be joined by West End in Schools Dance Company. They will be leading workshops throughout the school on a theme of working together and teamwork, before children in all classes develop their artwork around the idea of the Golden Rule. What a busy week - thank you Miss Underwood for making all the arrangements!

  • FOAS Christmas Fayre 2018

    Mon 17 Dec 2018 Miss O'Neill

On Friday 14th December 2018, our fabulous friends in FOAS organised a fantastic evening of festive fun for everyone! After an action packed few weeks getting everything ready, the FOAS team enlisted the support of Sants's little helpers in Years 5 and 6 through the afternoon and managed to open the Fayre at 3.30 as planned! Everyone enjoyed taking part in the games and activities, and there were some super-Christmassy painted faces to see. The choir gave an excellent performance of some festive favourites and the hot and cold food kept everyone sustained as they enjoyed the evening. Thank you all for attending the Fayre - FOAS will be letting us know the grand total raised soon, so watch out for updates!  A huge THANK YOU to Sarah and the team for all their hard work in preparation for the day - we are very lucky to have you all!

  • Royal Shakespeare Company Project

    Fri 30 Nov 2018 Miss O'Neill

'On the 21st of November, Year 5 and 6 watched the live performance of Romeo and Juliet in the morning. We all enjoyed it because the play was more of a modern day version of it and we are now part of the RSC project.' (Teira Year 6)

We are now part of an exciting project, running in conjunction with The Royal Shakespeare Company.

Many of you will know that our oldest children regularly perform Shakespeare plays as their end of Year performance. We are usually lucky enough to be invited to perform at the Theatre at OSA, which provides our children with an amazing opportunity to experience the thrill of giving a real performance. OSA are thrilled to have been selected as an RSC Associate School this year—one of only 25 in the country- and we will have the privilege of working with them on this project. This began with a live screening from the RSC of Romeo and Juliet - our study for this year.
