  • School Closure in 1918 - Update

    Thu 11 Jun 2020 Miss O'Neill
Thank you to Governor Roger Boulton, who managed to locate some information about Miss Oddy. Here you can see her retirement announcement in the Suffolk and Essex Free Press on March 29th 1945,  after 48 years working at Acton School!
  • School Closure in 1918

Fri 05 Jun 2020 Mr. Gray
When we were tidying some boxes at school, we found some excerpts from the Headteacher's Log Book. This was a book which the Headteacher would write about key events which happened at the school. These entries are particularly relevant as it is about the Spanish Flu Pandemic in 1918. During this time the school was ordered to be closed as people were really poorly - just like today! It tells us that 43 children (from the 91 who attended) were ill with the flu before the school closed. We don't know who Miss Oddy is so a little more research may be needed.
