Special Week 2010

Anthony Browne, IllustratorBlog :: Anthony Browne isAnthony Browne: My Brother,Anthony Browne,Author: Anthony BrowneZoo by Anthony BrowneBooks by Anthony Browne

This Special week, we are concentrating on the work of the Children's Laureate Anthony Browne.

We have been fortunate enough to work with Annie Eddington, drama and Michael Platt, dance.

Many thanks to FOA for funding a set of books for each class. Thank you also to Mrs Anderson for her help in sourcing the sets of books. Do try to look at the books with your children, (they will be bringing them home to share with you), especially the illustrations, you will be amazed at the detail and sometimes the amusing things you may find.

Don't forget World Book Day Vouchers, they can be exchanged for a free book, or maybe you could use it as £1.00 off of an Anthony Browne book!

If yhou would like to find out more about this amazing author and illustrator you can look on the website..

Sing Up Singing Day

Wherever you went in Acton School today, you could hear everyone singing!!

It started very early at Breakfast Club. After singing, the girls designed and made some posters to remind everyone about our special day!

Reception and Year 1 sang the register,  then the helpers sang to Mrs Beeton as they returned the registers to the office!

In Reception the children learnt some new number rhymes and enjoyed singing some old favourites.

In Year 1 we led each other in the H.E.L.L.O. song and really had fun doing some warming up activities.

With Reception , Year 1 learnt how to Samba!

Year 2 sang a song about chocoholics, while learning their times tables!

Year 3 sang the Football Fantasy Team song and Year 4 especially enjoyed singing We're All In This Together.

Years 3 and 4 had a brilliant time learning the Cha Cha Cha with Mrs Bonnar

!

Each class learnt a new song, then during the afternoon we all met in the hall to show each other what we had been doing.

Even Natalie and Rachel in the kitchen enjoyed singing along to their favourite

Peter Andre song!

The cleaning gets done much quicker when Mary and Heather enjoy themselves singing!!!

Acton School...( Singing School) is such a happy place when

EVERYBODY SINGS!!!!!

On Friday 12th February we all came into school wearing hats...some homemade, some wacky, some sunhats, some woolly hats. Well done to everyone!! We raised £224.00 for the poor people of Haiti. Thanks to Ben Gleeson for having the brilliant idea! We will be sending our donations along with donations from Ben's brother George's school. Here are some of the photographs from the day....

During our afternoon assembly we were lucky enough to have a visit from Mr Hicks, frpm the Talbot Rotary Club, who came to show us what our money would possibly be put towards... A huge trunk that had a tent, sleeping bags, cooking utensils, water bottles and lots of other useful items to make life a bit more comfortable for the poor people who have lost everything.

Reception class came up with these ideas as to why we were helping the people from Haiti..

The earth shook....it was an earthquake...They lost their electric...They have no books... They are hungry...they got hurt...They have no toys...The houses fell down...They died...The school fell down...The rescue dogs got some people out.

I am sure you will agree, everyone did very well!

At the end of our Art Fortnight we have some super work on display around the school.

Here are a few photographs, but PLEASE come in and have a look at the rest.

Reception and Year 1 have been studying pattern and shape, in particular looking at the work of

Klimt and Matisse

Year 2 have been looking at Landscapes, they created this beautiful  fabric collage as well as some watercolours

Year 3 have been looking at the work of David Hockney

Year 4 have been creating some fantastic still life work under the expert tuition of Mr Moore and creating paintings on the theme of water.

Rully and Pepper join our team!!!!

We were all very lucky today to have a visit, in our classrooms, from Mrs Bonnar and her brand new puppies!

Here they are visiting Year 1
